Original vs upgraded
Previously, we produced the engine sensor wiring harness for the Peugeot 205 GTI / CTI phase 1.5 and 2 models with the original brown 7-pin male plug. We were able to source this brown plug new for many years, but unfortunately it is no longer produced and no old stock is available. Nor is there a reproduction. We now come up with a future-proof solution that immediately gives a number of advantages. Namely, the plug is a lot more robust and waterproof.
Original

The original brown plug was not watertight. This while it is in a very vulnerable place. The plug is continuously exposed to high temperatures and over time comes into contact with moisture, dirt, (engine) oil, coolant and brine. Consequently, the cable terminals are always completely worn and corroded, wires worn and broken and insulation pulverised. The picture clearly shows in what condition we usually find the wiring harness in Peugeot 205 GTI and CTI models.
Upgraded
We now make the engine sensor harness with a waterproof, sealed liquid-proof plug that has a long reliable life. The plug is from the Junior Timer series. You will find this plug in several other places in the main engine wiring harness. This way, we keep the whole thing as close to the original as possible, but with the benefits of a more robust cable harness with better protection for the cable terminals.
Naturally, we supply the corresponding female mating connector with cable lugs and seals, as well as an insulation cap. You can easily fit these yourself on the side of the main wiring harness in the engine cabin. We offer the option of ordering the corresponding crimping pliers to fit the cable terminals. See above pictures of the upgraded 205 engine wiring harness.
We also provide the cable harness very well with insulation that can withstand the necessary influences. And as always, we provide every connection from copper wire to cable lug with heat-shrink tubing. This is our standard operating procedure at SKS.
Where to find the engine sensor wiring harness
You will find the engine sensor wiring harness in the Peugeot 205 GTI and CTI models produced from about October/November 1987 onwards. These are the phase 1.5 and phase 2 models.
The wiring harness is placed in the engine compartment where it controls the starter relay and engine sensors for the instrument panel. The female brown 7-pin mating plug can be found somewhere on top of the gearbox, to the left of the airflow meter. Also called air masseter or air sweeper.
Functions of the engine sensor wiring harness
The engine sensor wiring harness for the Peugeot 205 GTI/CTI phase 1.5 and 2 models controls 7 functions. The signal for the starter relay on the starter motor serves to ensure that the engine starts when you turn the ignition key to the start position. The other 6 signals serve sensors that control instruments and alarm lights in the dashboard. See below for an overview of all functions:
- Starter relay on starter motor for starting the engine
- Oil pressure sensor for controlling oil pressure gauge
- Oil pressure alarm sensor for alarm light when oil pressure drops out
- Oil temperature sensor for controlling oil temperature gauge
- Alternator charge alarm light when alternator voltage is too low
- Coolant temperature sensor for controlling the coolant temperature gauge
- Coolant temperature alarm sensor for alarm light when coolant gets too hot
Available in the webshop
The upgraded version of the 205 GTI / CTI engine wiring harness will be available in our webshop from February 2026.

Would you prefer to keep the original brown plug? You can. Then follow the link below. You can send us the brown male 7-pin plug so that we can reuse it. We also offer the option of ordering the original brown female 7-pin mating plug incl. cable sleeves. The brown female 7-pin plug is still available. It too is often broken due to long-term exposure to heat, engine oil, gearbox oil, coolant, etc.
