The headlight harness pieces are provided with wires for the indicators as in the post 1952 version.

The position of the indicators is not always the same in the version before '52 because there were no indicators at that time. We will contact you after your order to discuss this.

There are also ground wires present. In practice, the use of ground wires is much more reliable. Without ground wires, you will quickly get problems like blinking and weak lights.

The price is for a set of 2 headlight wiring harness pieces for left + right.

Headlight illumination Traction Avant

From the light switch in the car, three wires run through the dashboard tree to the contact blocks to the right and left of the radiator. These wires are for the city light, low beam and high beam. From the contact blocks, the headlight pieces connect these wires to the bulbs.

Until 1952, the Tractions did not have direction indicators. So a 3-pin block was sufficient. Of course all Tractions before 1952 have now turn signals added. Mostly they are placed on top of the fender like after 1952. Some Tractions have the indicators on the bumper. In that case, the indicator wires come from the dashboard tree near the horns. Starting in 1952, the Tractions were delivered from the factory with standard indicators on the mudguards. The 3-pin block was replaced by a 4-pin block. The original blocs are made of bakelite and break almost always when unscrewing the caps. There are new blocks for sale of 3-pin, 5-pin and 10-pin. When you replace the wiring, you will need 5-pin blocks.

The problems with the lighting of the Traction are legendary. Weak lighting for low and high beams was a common occurrence. The solution was a hefty slap on the mudguard and the lights went back on bright or went out completely.

The weak lighting is caused by all contact resistances in the return circuit. The current literally has to work its way through the transition from the bulb to the socket, from the socket to the headlight housing, from the headlight housing to the headlight bracket, from the headlight bracket to the wing, from the wing to the body. All these transitions form a barrier and at each transition we lose a bit of tension. Especially if there are (severe) corrosion on the copper. The voltage on the headlight is therefore reduced. That's why we add ground wires to the headlight and the indicator in all headlight sockets. These ground wires have to be connected to the fitting. With ground wires the headlights will work properly, also at 6 Volt.
