Repair piece tank float Citroën Traction Avant

(1 customer review)

New repair piece cable harness for wiring to the petrol tank float in the Citroën Traction Avant.

This part of the wiring is normally integrated into the roof wiring harness, but is usually very worn.

As it is not always decided to renew the entire roof wiring harness in a Traction, with a view to the headliner that has to be removed, this repair piece to the tank float is a solution in such cases.

Description

New repair piece wiring harness for the tank float wiring in the Citroën Traction Avant.

When completely or partially renewing the wiring in the Traction, the question often arises what will happen to the roof wiring harness. This is behind the headliner. Do we leave the roof wiring in place to connect it to the new wiring or do we remove the headliner and replace everything?

Replace or leave the roof wiring harness in place?

Of course, renewing all the wiring is always better. Even the youngest wiring harness dates from 1956 and has now reached the respectable age of 66 years. But if you want to replace the roof wiring harness for a new one, you have to remove the headliner. If the headlining is still original and neat, you don't want to risk this. The edges of the headlining often tear off at the mounting at the sides, so that you cannot escape having to replace the headlining. A pricey operation, especially when you let an upholsterer do it for you.

Condition of the roof wiring harness

The roof wiring harness is not affected by external influences, such as moisture, oil, coolant, road grime, brine, etc. and is therefore the least affected compared to the other wiring harness parts. From our many years of experience we know that it is best to save the wiring for the future. roof wiring harness not yet replaced.

But this absence of external influences does not apply to the last part of the roof wiring harness: the three wires to the tank float. And these are always in worse shape than the part that is inside. These wires go through the rear inner screen to the outside of the wheel well and then lie on the petrol tank in the space between the floor of the boot and the top of the tank.

Repair piece for wiring of petrol tank float

In view of the above, SKS supplies a petrol tank float repair piece for the Traction Avant.

At the height of the rear shelf, the two wires, blue and yellow, from the roof wiring harness are cut and the new part is connected to them using connecting pipes. A good reliable solution that will last you a long time.

Our advice

But I would like to give you some urgent advice.

If the headliner is removed or renewed for any reason, e.g. during a complete restoration. Always install a new roof wiring harness. With the new headliner, the ceiling will be closed again for decades!
