Description
This mass battery wiring harness for the MIN circuit of your Peugeot 205 phase 1, 1.5 or phase 2 replaces your worn battery cables between the battery MIN terminal, the engine block and the body. It is also an instant very good electrical circuit upgrade. Original battery cable colours and sizes have been used.
Applicable to various 205 models such as those with XU, TU and XY engines.
Difference in phase 1 / 1.5 and phase 2 ground battery cables for the Peugeot 205
The difference in cable between the different phases is that for phase 1 and 1.5, the yellow/green ground cable is located behind the battery on a bolt M6 near the ignition coil. For phase 2, this ground cable is a bit longer and is connected to the body on an m6 bolt next to the wiper fluid container. The production of phase 2 started in August 1990.
The version can also be determined by the position of the ignition coil. If the coil is a small black block in the middle of the intake manifold, you have a phase 2. If the coil is behind the battery, next to the strut, you have a phase 1 / 1.5.
Battery terminal selection
The direct battery terminal is technically the best connection. This is because the cables here are already pressed directly into the battery terminal clamp. As a result, there is no extra transition from cable lug to battery terminal. Such a transition is always a potential spot for corrosion.
Some customers prefer to choose a battery terminal with wing nut. You can then unscrew the wing nut to disconnect the wiring harness. The battery terminal clamp then remains on the battery.
However, you will also have to tighten the wing nut with pliers such as water pump pliers. Tightening by hand is not enough for a good connection.
In the case of the direct battery terminal, you will have to unscrew the nut on the side with a socket spanner if you want to disconnect the wiring harness.
Advantages of our battery cables over your old thin battery cables
The old cables are not thick enough to deliver the alternator's output voltage of 14.4 Volts over the battery without voltage loss. Especially with heavy electrical usage of e.g. lights and/or fan, the voltage of your old battery cables easily drops below 13 Volts. Current batteries need 14 Volts to charge properly and stay in good condition. You also lose a lot of power with the old cables when starting.
Some of the advantages of these thicker battery cables are:
- Better start
- More powerful ignition
- Higher on-board voltage
- Better charging, condition and battery life
- Car can stand still longer without starting problems
- No voltage dips under load from lights, fans, loud music etc.
- Essential if heavy consumers are installed such as an amplifier
- The basis of your electrical circuit is again in top condition
- Longer cable life
- High quality
The battery cable set consists of the following parts:
- Battery cable grey between motor and battery minus
- Battery ground cable yellow/green between battery minus and bodywork
- Battery terminal negative terminal with wing nut or direct battery terminal clamp
The cables have a high quality copper and a durable insulation jacket that also protects against heat, dirt, acid and liquids such as fuel, oil and coolant. Heavy-duty cable lugs for optimal current transfer.
For an extra safe and reliable connection, the cable lugs are pinched with hydraulic pliers. To protect against corrosion, shrink tubing is applied around the cable lugs.
We also supply new battery cable sets for all other types of 205s. Please contact us for the possibilities.
NOTE: If you are not sure whether you have a Peugeot 205 phase 1 or phase 2, take a look at the location of your ignition coil. If the coil is behind your battery, choose the phase 1 / 1.5 version. If the coil is a small black block on top of your air intake manifold, then you have a Peugeot 205 phase 2 model.
Super qualité, j'ai retrouvé un démarrage et un fonctionnement électrique optimal. Je recommande++++
Very happy with the product, the service and communication. A quality replacement and upgraded part. I was able to reuse the original plastic wing nut too.
Fine cable car, only the fastener for on the battery is very tight. With a hammer almost completely on it.
We have tried the battery terminal here on 3 batteries and on all of them it slides on so effortlessly. Just loosened the nut and removed the bolt.
Then, if it is still a bit tight, you can easily bend it open slightly with your hands, or possibly pliers.
A hammer may only be needed if you keep the nut tightened on the bolt 😉
Parfait ! Montage de qualité et câblage de plus grosse section que l'origine
It was time to replace my cable. This variant is sturdier and thicker than the original cables, now I also have a better battery clamp. Nice product!
