Description

Rear light wiring harness, also called boot / boot lid wiring harness for the rear lights on the Citroën Traction Avant 11BL or the 11BN of the post 1952 model year. The 11BN can also be used on the 15-Six.

These have a rear boot lid where the spare wheel is underneath. The 11BL version is slightly narrower so the wiring harness has a slightly different size. You can therefore choose your specific wiring harness.

The wiring harness controls the following consumers:

  • Licence plate lighting
  • Brake light left
  • Brake lamp right
  • Left taillight
  • Right taillight
  • Direction indicator right rear

Background information rear light wiring harness Traction Avant

Until 1952, the licence plate was placed on the left wing. The number plate was lit by the same bulb of the lights. There was no separate rear light wiring harness. The lights and brake lights were connected directly from the roof wiring harness.

In 1952 many changes were made to the Traction Avant. The 'wheel' became a trunk. The spare wheel became part of the trunk. The number plate moved to the trunk and the number plate lights were placed above it. From then on the roof wiring harness rear left near the rear parcel shelf. A 3 -pin socket block is placed there, to which the rear light wiring harness is connected that controls the rear tail lights, brake lights and turn signals on the right rear. This is the wiring harness you see in the picture.

The situation after 1952 is much better and that is why we also apply it to the Tractions from before 1952.
As the model years up to 1952 did not have turn signals, these wires will have to be added after discussing the place of placement. Usually they are placed on the C-pillar, but sometimes, for the sake of originality, on the rear bumper or in the same housing as the lights and brake lights on the wing.

Removing the boot lid

To enable removal of the boot lid without disconnecting the wiring from the boot, a plug connection has been fitted in the branch to the licence plate light. This is the wiring harness shown in the picture.
In all cases, there are ground wires to the left rear lights, right rear lights, and the license plate lights on the trunk.
A ground connection through the boot hinges and the lock catcher proved to be an unreliable connection and almost always resulted in blinking lights.

Special situations

Some Tractions from before 1952 have Jockey's on the C-pillar. Often installed before the car hit the road. A Jockey is a combination of a direction indicator and a parking light in one housing. In that case two extra wires are needed for the parking lights.

Then we have the unusual situation of the Traction Avant Commerciale. At the time, this was also used as a truck and ambulance. Due to the absence of the rear parcel shelf, here we are dealing with a rear light wiring harness specifically for this model.

However, we supply every conceivable wiring harness for all years and all types of Citroën Traction Avant, with any custom modifications required by the customer.
