Wiring harness rebuild for oldtimers
In vintage cars, you often see wiring harnesses that are completely worn out. The wear process is influenced by various factors. For example, conductors often carry larger currents than what the wire can handle for a long time. For a period of 10 years this works fine, but after 50 years ... well then it is finished.
In addition to large flows, you have to deal with environmental factors such as cold, heat, liquids, brine, etc. These affect the insulation. In time, the insulation hardens and decays. The more years pass by, the more wear and tear you will find. In some cases, the wear is so advanced that the insulation sleeve is completely gone and even the conductor sheaths around the copper have perished.
In addition to wear and tear, corrosion also occurs. This is a process that occurs in all metals when they come into contact with moisture and oxygen. You can recognise corrosion by the green colour on the contact pins and the copper wire. This Corrosion creates transition resistance which makes the electrics in your car less and less functional.

Wiring harness restoration for youngtimers
In the case of a youngtimer, it is often not necessary to build all wiring looms from scratch. Especially the cables inside are often not that bad that they need to be replaced. Cables in the exterior parts can often be restored and some parts can be rebuilt.
With youngtimers it is sometimes a challenge to find the original plugs. Oldtimers often didn't use the plugs you find in youngtimers. This can also be a reason to choose for restoration. Sometimes you can reuse plugs and rebuild (parts of) the cable tree. Restoring and repairing a harness in a youngtimer is a good and reliable choice which is at the same time a lot more affordable.
During a wiring harness restoration the following activities are performed:
- The wiring harness is dissected and inspected for damage
- All tape and insulation is removed
- After inspection, repairs are made if necessary
- All terminal lugs are stripped of corrosion or replaced if necessary
- All the plug boxes are cleaned
- The wiring harness is taped again
- Completely new insulation is installed

Peugeot 205 sensor wiring harness
The sensor wiring harness phase 2 can be found under the bonnet in the Peugeot 205 GTI / CTI. It is connected to a brown 7-pin connector which is located under the air scoop on the clutch housing. From this plug, 7 wires go to various sensors, the starter relay and the alternator. This wiring harness is usually seriously worn by the heat of the engine, weather influences and fluids such as oil and coolant.

Rear light harness for licence plate, fog light and reversing light
This wiring harness is located in the rear bumper and controls the fog light, reverse light and licence plate light in every Peugeot 205 phase 2. It connects to the left lamp unit.
I recently installed a towbar on my own Peugeot 205 CTI. I had to make the necessary adjustments in the wiring to connect it to the 7 or 13 pin connector next to the tow bar. Battery cable set / main power cable set
The battery cable set is a good upgrade for the electrical circuit in the Peugeot 205. It contains the 5 main power cables which are located between the alternator, starter motor, battery, possibly the fuse box near the battery, the engine block and the body. The battery cables ensure a very good voltage performance in your 205.
