Description
This main power cable set / battery cable set for the Peugeot 205 replaces your worn out battery cables and is an instant very good electrical circuit upgrade. Provides power flow between the alternator, the starter motor, the battery positive terminal, the small fuse box near the battery, the engine block and the bodywork.
In terms of looks as good as original, but with the benefits of significantly better current flow due to the thicker copper diameter and high-quality cable lugs.
The ribbed tube insulation over the red cable between alternator and starter motor has an open slot, this allows you to add existing wires in the engine compartment to the bundle.

Difference in phase 1.5 and phase 2 battery cables for the Peugeot 205
The difference in design between phase 1.5 and phase 2 is only in the length of the green / yellow ground cable to the body. For phase 1.5, this was originally connected from the factory to a bolt M6 behind the battery near the coil. This cable is about 15cm shorter than phase 2, where the green/yellow ground cable was connected to a bolt M6 on the body between the strut and the wiper fluid pan. The Peugeot 205 stage 1.5 was delivered from November 1987 until July 1990. The production of the Peugeot 205 phase 2 started in August 1990.
You can also determine your version by the position of the ignition coil. If your ignition coil is a small black block in the middle of the intake manifold, you have a phase 2. Faults caused by worn (too thin) battery cables in the 205
The problem with the 205 is that the old cables are not thick enough to deliver the alternator output voltage of 14.4 Volts without voltage loss over the battery. Especially with heavy electrical usage of e.g. lights, fan or even worse, a heavy amplifier, the voltage of the old cables easily drops below 13 Volts. At that moment, your battery will not recharge. Aging cables in the electrical circuit, and often corrosion on top of that, only make this worse. Current batteries need the 14 Volts from the alternator to charge properly and stay in good condition.
Due to the power loss of the old worn thin battery cables in the 205, we regularly see the faults below:
- Bad starting
- Battery not recharging or barely recharging
- Unable to start after just a few days of standing still
- Slow Moving Wipers
- Fans not running at full speed
- Weak lighting
- Weak horn
- Consumers such as lights and fans dancing to the bass of the music
- Radio failure due to voltage drop too far
- Electric windows that open slowly
- Voltage dips in lighting or fan when other consumers are switched on
- Poor fuel supply
- Weak inflammation
- Engine failure
- Short battery life
- etc.
Especially when installing an audio amplifier or other extra large consumers, the original cables are not sufficient and you are guaranteed to encounter the above-mentioned problems.
With our battery cables, you measure the alternator output voltage without voltage drop across the battery. Depending on the charging situation, this is usually 14 - 14.4 volts.

Our battery cables have a high-quality abrasion-resistant insulation jacket that also protects against heat, dirt, acid and liquids such as fuel, oil and coolant. The cable lugs are heavy-duty for optimum current flow. For an extra safe and reliable connection, the cable lugs are tightened with hydraulic pliers.
Shrink tubing has been applied around the cable lugs to protect against corrosion. As additional protection against heat and wear, the sheath is fitted with insulation ring tubing in the necessary places, just like the original.
We use the original size and colour cables. The battery cable set is plug n play and has a long service life that will get you back on the road long and reliably.

Battery terminal type (As of November 2023)
The mass battery cables now come standard with a battery terminal clamp with wing nut as shown in the picture below. The photos on the website have yet to be updated.

Insulation caps
As standard, we supply a red insulation cap on the battery plus pole and black insulation caps on the alternator and starter motor. Originally, however, only black caps were supplied. Customisation

NOTE: If you are not sure whether you have a Peugeot 205 GTI / CTI phase 1.5 or phase 2, take a look at the location of your coil. If it is behind your battery, choose the phase 1.5 version. If the coil is a small black block on top of your air intake manifold, then you have a phase 2 version.

Bought this set for my 205. Earlier I replaced the battery and alternator, but I still had problems with the charging, so the radio switched off when the load was too high and the car would not start several times. I also had a faint battery light.
Jesper recognised the problem immediately: too high resistance across the original, worn-out battery cables. The insulation of one of the old plus cables was also worn out, which meant that the cable was exposed and almost touched the engine block, potentially very dangerous because of the fire risk.
Completely new set is custom made for my 1.4 engine and it works as before! The cables are of very good quality and can handle a higher load than original and will not wear out. Because I want to drive many more miles with my car, I see this as a small but very valuable investment because the car has become a lot more reliable. Charge voltage now indeed comes back to 14.4 Volt and I don't stand still with an empty battery anymore. The starter motor runs faster, the windscreen wipers work faster and the radio is loud again 😉 Perfect upgrade!
